Seems Acer is a pop kiddie. ;-)
Cradle of filth... good choice Clifton. I also like "Born in a burial gown"
Just got the System Of A Down CD Hypnotize. Love the whole thing.
And I'm sick of pointless music. I'm sick of poppy jumpy music with no real value. I admit, I listen to techno with pointless lyrics, but that's only as a soundtrack to drive to work and back. Meanwhile, all this Britney Spears / N'Sync / Backstreet Boys crap (no offense to anyone who likes them) just doesn't cut it. It's idealistic and stupid.
Yeah, "How much is the fish" by Scooter is just as dumb... "hold me back to the rhythm attack comin down on the floor like a maniac - how much is the fish?" But it at least SOUNDS better. It's more fun to listen to.
And then SOAD, Tool, Perfect Circle, Psychotica... Many of these are revolutionary. Rather than throwing generic "sex me if you love me" lyrics (cough *pop* cough) they actually think and put real messages in their songs (with the exception of SOAD often times... "banana banana banana banana banana treacle pie..." But even that is fun.)
Of course this is all just me ranting about how 99% of today's music sucks hardcore. And honestly, it does. But the musical taste of most Teenage Americans sucks just as much, so it fits (sadly).
And yeah, it's all just my opinion... But go watch American Idol and see which people listen to who, and I believe that you'll find most of the dipshits listen to either 1. rap or 2. pop. In my experience, this has been the norm; pop fans are usually:
1. Immature
2. Idealistic
3. Perverted
4. Slutty (if female) and cheuvenistic (if male)
5. Intellectually lacking
6. Spoiled
7. Rude
Pop fans also usually tend to be pre-teens or early teens (from 12-15). The fans that are older than this age usually display the aforementioned traits (see 1-7) even moreso, and it's blatantly obvious.
Now, of course, there are exceptions to every rule. I know pop fans that are top-of-their-class. I know pop fans that are very philosophical. But even then, they usually display at least two or three of the aforementioned traits. Either that, or they consider it a guilty pleasure and agree with the fact that most pop sucks. (Even I admit that there are some "pop" songs that I like... though they're all from the '90s and not from the '00s.)
Now I don't mean to insult anyone in this thread by this post. I merely intend to state my opinions. I just hope and pray that music eventually takes an upturn in terms of talent and meaning... I'd like to be able to listen to the radio again without being bombarded by crappy music.
As for the "pop" that I've listened to...
Jewel - Jewel is good music. Read the lyrics to "You Were Meant For Me"... It's poetry.
Gorillaz - They're popular, but they're damn good.
Spice Girls - Back in the day... They were fun to listen to. Attitude. Spunk. British.
Goo Goo Dolls - Can you call this pop anymore?
Everclear - How about this?
Hanson - Just kidding. I never cared for Hanson.
Ricky Martin - Not because everyone thinks he's hot, but because his music is actually pretty damn good.
Donna Lewis - Never heard much of her stuff but "I love you always forever" was pretty good.
Simon and Garfunkel - Not really pop anymore, not really from the '90s... Actually it's before my time, but I love 'em.
And the list goes on. Admittedly, I fall into the category that I listed above: at the time I listened to most of these musicians, I was in my preteens/early teens. I was idealistic. I was a little stupid. And I was immature. But I still hold that this music is MUCH better than most anything else you'll hear played today.
Yep.
